Roofing Maintenance From Roofing Products

Repairs to your roof are very often made after there has been some sizeable damage.
Sadly that’s rather like the old horse and barn adage.

It’s too late once the floor has been leaked on to make the roof water tight, just as it is too late to close that barn door once the horse had gone out.

If you keep ahead of your roof maintenance you may prevent a leak or roof damage, rather than having to clear away after it and then repair the roof.

Checking every three months to be certain that none of your shingling is loosened or worn and that all the sealant is still in place may save you considerable time and money later on down the road.

Minor repairs such as those which replace a loose shingle or a row of unsealed paper will save you time and money over the course of your home ownership.

Whether you own a cottage, a two story or a prefabricated home the roof is the most important aspect of it and the most often neglected aspect of it as well.

We are all eager to remodel and rebuild the inside of our homes, and sometimes forget what it is that keeps them secure and dry above our heads.

To check your roof for damage or problems that may lead to a leak, you will need to be on top of it, of course.

Very carefully make your way to the roof and look out over it.

If you see worn shingling or areas which are not tightened down to the roof itself, then chances are you need a bit of maintenance.

Other cues will be shingling that’s lost its weather proofing. In many cases this will be tar or pitch. Seam areas that are barren of that pitch will in the course of time let the water down through them, particularly if the shingles themselves become loosened further by wind or weather.

IF your roof is larger and can’t be seen all the way across you will need to find a way to secure yourself so that falling isn’t possible, and make your way across the roof beams, inspecting the seals, seams and shingle rows, for missing shingles as you go.

Make a note of what you find and when you inspect the roofing so that you have a home maintenance record to refer to.

This will assure that you inspect the roof on a regular basis.

It is important to do this after a larger wind storm or ice storm to be certain that damage was not sustained during that storm which may lead to problems down the road.

Paying attention now to what’s happening over your head may save you a great deal of labor in the months to come.
